Country Inn Motel in Nimpo Lake burned to the ground

I am sad to report another loss to fire in the Chilcotin:

Yesterday, the Country Inn Motel in Nimpo Lake burned to the ground. Fortunately there were no casualties. Apparently the manager of the motel was able to alert all the guests in time to move themselves and their vehicles to a safe place. The owners, had moved to the Inn only a month ago, and lost everything. This is what the site looked like after the fire:

If you have more to add to this information - words or pictures - I'd be happy to post them here. E-mail. You can also add a comment by clicking on Comments at the foot of this post.

Close to the Nimpo Lake float plane base, the Inn was an important part of the local tourist scene and was recommended by such operations as The Nuk Tessli Alpine Experience.

Deana and I (Ted Hlokoff) are dealing with the insurance company in an attempt to rebuild the Motel. At this time we are unsure of the finacial situation for this. The managers lost everything and donations for them can be sent to Art & Mary Myra @ General Delivery, Anahim Lake, BC, V0l 1C0. There will be a dinner at Chilcotin's Gate Restaurant Oct. 8 @ 5pm in their honor. We would also like to recommend them as excellent Motel managers (job offers?). We also own Anahim Lake Trading Store, so we have lots to do.

We were impressed with the communities response during this crisis and we are reminded why we chose here to live.

I am sad to hear of your loss. My Grandparents built the hotel and I have many great memories helping my Grandmother clean rooms and playing hide and seek with my siblings there. It is sad to think that two parts of my history, the restaurant and hotel, are gone. I wish you both the best as you start a new and different phase of your life.
